Community Composter Internship
Unpaid - 11 weeks

Food2Soil is a people-powered approach to recovering value from waste. Our programs build community capacity to divert foodscraps, replenish our local soil and create jobs in the process. Our compost technicians are ‘Soil Growers’ for their community.

During this internship you will work as an assistant to a lead community composter. We are hoping this proves to be a playground for you to learn about community scale composting but also test some ideas to help you start and manage your own composting hub somewhere on this planet. You will learn the steps in the process of composting beginning from collection of foodscraps to distribution and sale of finished compost. Upon successful completion of the program you will have the opportunity to take on a paid position with Food2Soil by starting a new community composting hub.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about people powered and enterprise based solutions to waste diversion and soil regeneration. An ideal candidate is one who is disciplined, enjoys learning in an hands on manner, loves the outdoors (sun and rain) and being around people. You must be physically fit and able to lift weights.

Requirements
This is an unpaid internship of roughly 30 hours spread over 3 months. If accepted into the program you will be required to commit to a set schedule of 3 hours every week for 11 consecutive weeks. You will also be required to finish a Capstone Project on an aspect of community composting of your choosing.

Details of the Capstone Project Requirement
The Capstone Project is a requirement for you to successfully complete your internship. Your project can be as broad as a poem providing a boost to the spirit of community composters all over the world, or something as specific as writing an operations manual for the compost hub you worked at. Whatever it is, we hope you choose a topic you are passionate about and your project fills in a much-needed void somewhere for Food2Soil or for the larger community scale and decentralized composting movement.
